Cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Lung, liver, stomach, colon and breast cancer cause the highest number of deaths.
About 30% of cancer deaths are due to five risk factors such as a higher body mass index, low intake of fruits and vegetables, tobacco and alcohol consumption and lack of physical activity. Smoking is the risk factor which, on its own, causes the greater number of cases and worldwide is responsible for about 22% of all cancer deaths and 71% of lung cancer deaths.
20% of cancer deaths in middle and low-income countries and 7% in high-income countries occur as a result of infections caused by hepatitis B and C and human papillomavirus.
It is estimated that annual cases of cancer will increase from 14 million in 2012 to 22 million over the next two decades.
Our objectives are based on providing treatments which cure or prolong patients´ lives and ensure them better quality of life.
