Cardiovascular diseases are those that affect both the circulatory system and the heart and are the leading cause of death in the developed world.
Acute myocardial infarction is the most common affection with 61% of deaths. In 25 to 74 years olds it is stable but the number of heart attacks and cases of angina are estimated to increase by 1.5 percent each year due to the aging population.
Cerebrovascular disease is more common in the elderly population. The consequences range from mild to severe injuries and may include impaired vision and a deterioration in movement coordination and is one of the main causes of severe and prolonged disability in adults.
